  • Banks lead at 50%, followed by 

  • Healthcare companies at 46%, and

  • Insurers at 39%.

The performance of a large language model partially depends on the quality of the questions it is asked. Prompt engineers are expert translators who bridge the gap between complex business needs and the logical reasoning of machine intelligence. Their work is a blend of art and science, combining linguistic nuance with a deep understanding of how models process information.

In an insurance context, prompt engineering is mission-critical. A prompt engineer creates structured inputs for AI to summarize claims reports, analyze policy documents for coverage gaps, or assist customer service bots with complex queries. They create libraries of validated prompts that deliver consistent, compliant, and accurate outcomes at scale.

As this discipline matures, leading organizations are adopting a “PromptOps” framework. This practice combines the principles of DevOps, such as version control and continuous monitoring, with prompt engineering. With nearly 80% of enterprises already deploying or exploring generative AI, PromptOps provides the structure needed to manage, scale, and secure AI interactions, ensuring every output aligns with business and regulatory standards. 

How to Stack the Infrastructure for Intelligent Governance

Transitioning from AI pilots to enterprise-scale deployment requires a new operating model. The insurance industry can’t rely on ad hoc project teams or siloed data science units to steward systems that will soon underpin underwriting, claims, and customer experience. AI must be treated as pillar infrastructure, governed with the same rigor as financial reporting or solvency controls.

Establishing clear accountability is crucial. This includes defining roles like the AI Auditor, AI Trust Engineer, and Prompt Engineer, and integrating them throughout the product lifecycle. This approach shifts governance from mere compliance to ongoing assurance, enhancing customer trust and operational resilience.

Successful carriers embrace AI with open arms, investing money and effort in fostering trust among employees and customers.
